Nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, Guadeloupe is full of natural wonders , including its rivers and waterfalls that resemble a tropical paradise . Between lush forests, clear pools of water and spectacular waterfalls, each site offers a refreshing and exotic break . Whether you are a seasoned hiker or simply a lover of swimming in the great outdoors, these magical places promise unforgettable experiences close to the wild soul of the island . In this article, discover the most beautiful freshwater gems of Guadeloupe.

The Lézarde Jump, Petit-Bourg

The Saut de la Lézarde is a spectacular 12-meter waterfall nestled in the Petit-Bourg rainforest. Accessible after a walk of about 30 minutes, the trail winds between roots and bamboo. The arrival at the pool, deep and surrounded by lush vegetation, is magical. Be careful, however: in rainy weather, the path becomes very slippery. Wear sturdy shoes and avoid it in bad weather.

Acomat Jump, Pointe-Noire

A favorite with locals, the Saut d'Acomat is a waterfall of approximately 12 meters forming a pool of emerald water. Access is via a steep but short descent through the vegetation. The site is ideal for swimming and contemplation. Caution, however: the plunges are tempting but risky, and the current can be strong during the rainy season.

Moreau Falls, Guava

Moreau Falls is a series of impressive waterfalls accessible only on foot via a 4- to 5-hour round-trip hike. The route crosses rivers and dense forest, offering unique views of powerful falls, one of which is approximately 100 meters (328 feet) high. This is an adventure best reserved for experienced hikers, but it's well worth the effort.

Three Horns Jump, Sainte-Rose

This poetically named waterfall is a marvel of the Sofaïa region, in Sainte-Rose. The Saut des Trois Cornes is distinguished by its three jets of water gushing from a single cliff, forming a pool perfect for swimming. The hike to reach it takes about 2.5 hours round trip, between roots, wooden bridges, and viewpoints over the Moustique River.

Paradise Basin, Capesterre-Belle-Eau

A little corner of paradise near the Carbet Falls, Bassin Paradise lives up to its name. After a short 10-minute walk, you'll reach a pool of clear water, bordered by a small waterfall. The atmosphere is calm and ideal for swimming or a nap on the rocks. Nearby, a 32°C hot spring offers an unexpected moment of relaxation.

The Galion River, Basse-Terre

Nestled in the heart of the Basse-Terre rainforest, the Galion River is a true natural gem. Its winding course runs through lush vegetation, home to giant ferns, bamboo, and ancient trees. Adventurers can enjoy aquatic hiking along the river, following its bed, dotted with waterfalls and natural pools where it's a pleasant place to cool off.

The Carbet Falls, Capesterre-Belle-Eau

The Carbet Falls are located on the island of Basse-Terre, in the commune of Capesterre-Belle-Eau, in Guadeloupe. They are located on the course of the Grand Carbet River, in the heart of the rainforest of the Guadeloupe National Park, at the foot of the Soufrière volcano. They are composed of three main waterfalls:

  • The first waterfall (the highest, 115 meters) is accessible via a steep path in the rainforest.

  • The second waterfall (110 meters) is the most accessible and the most frequented, with a developed path.

  • The third waterfall (20 meters, highest flow) is reserved for experienced hikers, but access to its basin has currently been prohibited by municipal decree since 2008 following landslides .

The Grand Carbet River rises on the eastern flank of La Soufrière, at an altitude of approximately 1,300 metres, and flows into the Atlantic Ocean 11 km downstream.

The Bras David River, Saint-Claude

Located in Guadeloupe National Park, the Bras David River is renowned for its wild and unspoiled beauty. Its tumultuous course winds through lush vegetation, offering visitors a breathtaking spectacle at every turn. Canyoning enthusiasts will be delighted by the river's many natural obstacles, such as waterfalls to climb and natural slides to slide down.

The Matouba Leap, Saint-Claude

Accessible from the town of Saint-Claude, the Saut de Matouba is a small 8-meter waterfall in the hollow of a natural pool. The path leading there is short but passes through dense and fragrant vegetation. The water is cool, perfect for refreshing after a day of exploring. A little-visited spot, perfect for a peaceful nature break.

The Lorrain River, Marie Galante

Located on the island of Marie-Galante, the Lorrain River is a haven of peace with a peaceful and unspoiled atmosphere. Its tranquil course flows through bucolic landscapes dotted with sugarcane fields and lush mangroves. Visitors can enjoy kayaking along the river, discovering a rich and varied flora and fauna along the way.

Crayfish Waterfall, Petit-Bourg

Located in the heart of Guadeloupe National Park, Cascade aux Écrevisses is one of the easiest to access—but equally spectacular. A few minutes' walk leads you directly to this refreshing waterfall, nestled in tropical greenery.

In the end, they are all beautiful!

Whether you're looking for a peaceful break at Bassin Paradise , a sporting challenge at Chutes de Moreau , or a refreshing swim at Saut d'Acomat , Guadeloupe's rivers and waterfalls offer a real range of emotions. From accessible sites like Saut de Matouba or Saut de la Lézarde , to more demanding trails leading to Saut des Trois Cornes , each place reveals a wild and authentic side of the island.

Exploring these natural treasures means diving into the heart of the tropical forest, between lianas, clear pools and birdsong... an unforgettable immersion in the most preserved Guadeloupe , the one that we remember for a long time.
